Stitching Up The World...
One Stitch At A Time
About Our Group
Stitching up the World is a group of volunteers that knit, crochet or sew items, giving back to others that are in need!
Stitching Up the World was started in March of 2010 and we knit, crochet or sew items that are then donated to different organizations. By April of 2023, our group has made and donated over 27,700 items!
Our main project is to make caps, scarves and lap blankets for patients undergoing chemotherapy at local Cancer Centers in NH. We have also made caps for 104 Transportation Company, an Army Troop stationed in Afghanistan, caps for New Horizons in Manchester, NH, scarves for the Special Olympics volunteers and athletes, and caps for the VNA of Manchester and Southern NH. Our projects continually change so that we can provide these handmade items to those in need.
We are always looking for new volunteers and new donations for this worthwhile cause. Please browse the links on the right or contact us for more information.
Do you have items that you would like to donate?
First, thank you! Our group relies on the generous donations of individuals and companies and donations of yarn and supplies are always appreciated.
»Currently, we are much in need of Worsted Weight Yarn (not sport or thin)! All colors are in need and we also enjoy working with variegated and soft skeins. Please make sure the yarn does not contain wool as we currently don't have projects that require that type of fiber. Donations can be dropped of in the collection bin at the Smyth Public Library or contact Lisa Cote to arrange pickup, at 603-587-0603.
Please read our donation guidelines for more information.
Interested in joining?
Stitching Up the World meets each month on the 3rd Wednesday from 6:00 - 8 pm at the Henry W. Moore School. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our group. All levels of needlework are welcome.
» What do we do at our meetings? Our members share patterns, teach new volunteers, munch on a few snacks, and chat. And, of course, we are knitting and crocheting new items at the same time.
» Don't know how to knit or crochet? Don't worry, we will teach you. It's easy and fun. Several of our current members did not know how to knit or crochet when they started and now they can make hats, scarves and accessories quickly and with ease.
» Would you like to contribute items but are unable to come to our meetings? That's fine. We've had people as far away as Arizona donate hats for cancer patients. We gladly accept completed items and will make sure they get to the proper destination. Just contact us and someone will be in touch with you shortly.
