BAKED CUSTARD
September 2023
Recipe provided by Cecilia J. "This is an old GFWC NH Juniors' 59th Annual Meeting recipe card from1998 that I found while cleaning out my things. I thought it would bring back fond memories of the past besides being a delicious dessert."
Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3 beaten egg yolks or 2 whole eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
Directions
- Scald milk, sugar and salt. Pour over eggs. Add vanilla and nutmeg. Beat until well blended. Bake in greased custard cups in pan of hot water at 325 degrees for an hour or more. Test with silver knife.
- Variation: Coffee Custard: same, but dissolve 3 or 4 tablespoons of instant coffee in scalded milk. (Grated orange rind).
- 5 Servings.
